What is a radar detector

A radar detector is a type of radar warning device characterized in that detects the frequency of police speed trap like a radio receiver. The radar detector is only effective with radar radar technology but not camera-based radars, radar band radars induction or laser technology, as either not detected or when the measurement does speed has already been done.

Concepts

The term radar detector is a generic term that is often used to refer to any device that warns of the presence of a speed trap. Strictly speaking there are three types of radar detector:

GPS-Locator: report from the vicinity of a fixed radar based on GPS and safety camera database known. Radar Detector: detects the speed trap frequencies. Radar inhibitor (jammer): emit a strong signal that inhibits the speed trap, preventing proper operation.

Similarly, the term radar is a generic name that encompasses all speed control systems, and can distinguish basically four types:

Radars radar technology: used both fixed and mobile radars. Laser radar technology: only used in fixed speed cameras. Induction radar bands: they are placed under the asphalt. Based radar cameras, radars and monitoring section or by video camera. Radar detector efficiency

Of the four existing types of speed trap, radar detector is only effective with radar radar technology, as in the other types, or can not detect its presence (based radar cameras) or when it has done it's too Later as the speed measurement has been made (radar and laser radar technology induction bands).

To improve the effectiveness of radar detector, most incorporate the functionality of GPS speed camera locator, so that not only alert when they detect an active radar but also the presence of fixed speed thanks to GPS and database of fixed speed .

Legality of radar detector

The legality of radar detectors varies greatly from one country to another:

In some countries they are legal because they do not interfere with the proper working of traffic surveillance systems. In other countries are illegal, since they allow to avoid the surveillance. In other countries are alegal or indefinite situation, for lack of precise legislation on the matter. Also, keep in mind that in many countries may be illegal not only to use a radar detector but simply take it installed, which can lead to immobilization of the vehicle. Therefore, we must always check the applicable law prior to its use and acquisition.
