Keyword Meta Tags - Search Engines and SEO Bloggers said ... Ding! Useless!

First, a quote "... the implementation of meta tags - more specifically the meta tags keywords - will have no effect on your rankings." - SEO Jill Whalen of HighRankings.com said recently in a discussion list LED.

Two members of the list then (who claim to be SEO) quoted comment above suggests that Jill Whalen who believe that the meta keywords tag still have an effect on rankings. Can meta tag keyword may still relevant? Title tags still matter - critically, description tag can sometimes matter ... a little, but the meta keywords tag? Uh-uh.

It 's been a long time to stop wasting energy on that tag and I hope that those two SEO has argued that both have found useful meta-tags will spend their energy elsewhere in the future. And 'old news that keyword tags are useless.

I wrote an article in 1999 or 2000, entitled "Meta Tags Tutorial Search Keyword Phrase" that lists the best ingredients for 8 ranking in search engines.

I went back today to review and found that things have changed dramatically. So I massaged and changed some things, added a little kind of disclaimer ;-) and tied to some online tools that page, including an "instrument simulator search engine" and a "source code HTML Viewer" The also linked to a previous article I wrote in 2002 called "SEO Keyword Voodoo: Invisible Meta Tags Mumbo Jumbo" because, as you may guess from the title, I'm 100% with Jill Whalen on the futility of tinkering with the goal keyword tags.

Meta keyword tags to the south in about 1998-1999 or so when she started stuffing keywords webmaster and search engines stopped paying attention to them. They are not used, nor are they entirely trusted by any search engines. If you are not deliberately abuse, yet are completely misunderstood by webmasters. Do not waste your time fiddling with them or tweaking them. I am an old and badly abused HTML code that does something for the ranking.

To further demonstrate my point, I created a Rollyo search tool, available through a link on my box of income below which allows you to search only the first 25 bloggers SEO and Blog Search Engine officers for the tag phrase " meta-search. "

At the time of this writing, only 9 returned results of that research. Nine. Meta tags are keywords no longer disputed by anyone, much less used in SEO. After visiting each of the nine search results from that searchroll, I discovered that most of these results have to be derisive comments about "meta tag keywords" SEO from bloggers or are derisory comments from visitors about the folly of the massage meta tags !

My favorite blog posts of the results of this are SearchRoll by Aaron Wall of SEOBook when he said:

"... A former client asked me to rewrite their meta tags. A total waste of time, but if it makes you happy, oh well ... meta-tags? ... Hehehe"

Still convinced that meta tags are useless keywords? Blogger SEO said ... Ding! "Hehehe!"
